We Believe All Yards Should Be Treated Equally With Only Premium Products Administered Under the Best Weather Conditions.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
Offering premium products at an exceptional value is our ongoing commitment. Our goal is to ensure that every service we provide meets or exceeds your expectations for quality and performance. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
That is our commitment to you and all our customers. Treat every lawn equally. An application is applied when it is the right thing to do and in the best of weather. Not because some large corporation has to meet their bottom line—come rain or come shine, high winds or whatever?
After working for one of the larger lawn companies and having to deal with the weather, we decided we could do a much better job working with the weather and not against it. Cleaner applications with much better results. You shouldn't have to worry if the weather will have any effect on the application you're paying for.
We will only be servicing a manageable amount of lawns this season. We will not be taking on more than we can manage properly. We have witnessed firsthand what overselling can do to a business relationship and how it takes away from customer satisfaction.
True white grubs are the larvae of May beetles (also called June Beetles) found in the genus Phyllophaga, of which there are over 100 different species. Phyllophaga larvae and other larvae of the family Scarabaeidae are often referred to as "white grubs," including larvae of the Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica Newman), annual white grubs (Cyclocephala spp.), and the green June beetle (Cotinis nitida Linnaeus).
The Phyllophaga life cycles vary somewhat because some species complete their growth in one year, while others require as much as four years. The common life cycle of the more destructive and abundant of these beetles extends over three years. The adults mate in the evening, and, at dawn, females return to the ground to deposit 15 to 20 eggs, 1 to 8 inches deep in the soil.
Damage, scouting, and management: Identify a grub problem by examining a square foot sample of lawn along the border where dead or damaged grass meets healthy grass. When grub densities are high, the blades pull away from the roots, and the turf rolls back like a carpet. Skunks and moles are known to use grubs for food. However, in Minnesota, night crawlers account for a sizable portion of the diet of those mammals. Therefore, grub control often will not correct damage to lawns by skunks and moles. Remember the grubs turn into adult beetles that emerge from the soil and fly to trees, shrubs, and roses to feed on the leaves before returning to the turf to lay eggs. In some species, control of adults is warranted if they are damaging ornamental plants.
Insecticide can be used for the control of soil inhabiting pests of turfgrass, such as Northern & Southern masked chafers, Cyclocephala borealis, C. immaculata, and/ or C. lurida; Asiatic garden beetle, Maladera castanea; European chafer, Rhizotroqus majalis; Green June beetle, Cotinis nitida; May or June beetles, Phyllophaga spp.; Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica; Oriental beetle, Anomala orientalis; Billbugs, Spherophorus spp.; Annual bluegrass weevil, Hyperodes spp.; Black turfgrass ataenius, Ataenius spretulus; Aphodius spp; and mole crickets. You will need a deep watering to push the insecticide down to the roots of your plants so that the plant can take up the insecticide.
Aeration is the mechanical process of creating an airspace by the removal of soil cores to improve soil air exchange. We use a modern ride on aerator that will pull cores in all types of soils without the need to pre-water.
Over time, lawns will become naturally compacted due to foot traffic, mowing patterns—even if varied—or as a side effect of freezing and thawing.
Golf courses and athletic fields perform this process regularly to promote a healthy root system. It allows vital nutrients and water to reach deeper into the soil, developing a better root system. You will notice that water no longer pools in your yard after a heavy downpour, and less watering is needed to maintain a good, healthy lawn.
Many people find that over-seeding at the same time as an aeration is very beneficial. The best time to perform an aeration to the lawn with over-seeding is from the middle of August through the middle of September. This allows the new grass to germinate and develop into plants prior to winter.
Regardless of whether you seed or not, the cores left on the surface provide a wonderful top dressing to your lawn and will break down naturally.
Note: The service window for an aeration without seed can be extended through October.
Examine the lawn closely, regardless of how healthy it appears. Cut several slices 2 or 3 inches deep. Similar to the picture shown here. If thatch is present, it will appear as a distinct horizontal layer of brown spongy or felt like material.
When there is about 1/2 inch of thatch developing, it is best to remove it before the grass is damaged. Thatch is best removed by power raking, or coring with an aerator that may be hired or rented. Coring causes less lawn stress than dethatching with a power rake or vertical mower and provides the additional benefit of reducing soil compaction.
Lawns should be dethatched only when conditions favor rapid turf recovery. For the cool-season lawns of Minnesota, early fall dethatching is the most desirable.
